showing off L&T as part of the Ambani empire, a fraudulent
takeover RVP was determined to reverse, and did manage to reverse in
2003, making L&T independent as H. Holck Larsen had requested RVP to
ensure. RVP created a situation where the Ambanis had to sell
their stake in L&T. Kumar Mangalam Birla bought it. RVP
persuaded New Delhi to let Birla acquire the cement division of
L&T on the condition that he surrender his newly-acquired
stake in L&T. Then, RVP pursuaded New Delhi to acquire the
Birla stake at Rs 146 per share; simultaneously, RVP got Jaswant
Singh, the then Finance Minister, to build an unassailable high
stake in the engineering giant which is also an important player
in India's security build-up. Click
